Join Clubs

At TRU there are so many clubs to get involved in ranging from academic clubs to culture clubs to athletic clubs, and so many more! On campus clubs are a great way to meet people with similar interests to you. In September TRUSU hosts ‘clubs day’ where all the clubs get to promote their club and some of the events they host. If you are passionate about a club but it doesn’t exist you can create it yourself!

Work on Campus

There are different opportunities to work on campus throughout the academic school year. Some of these opportunities include work study, TRUSU opportunities, and more! Work study provides students with part time work with a maximum of eight hours a week. TRUSU opportunities include positions at the Members Services Desk or the coffee shop in the TRUSU building. There are also the food services on campus that employ students throughout the year such as Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and Subway.

Volunteer

The Sustainability Office has tree planting opportunities that students can participate in as well as campus clean up sessions. There is also an Experience More Program to help students find volunteer positions around campus as a meaningful way to get involved. These are a great way to not only improve your resume but also make meaningful connections with like minded people.

Events Around Campus

TRUSU plans many events throughout the year that are a great way to get involved around campus. At the beginning of the year there’s a Back-to-School Barbeque with lots of free stuff from local businesses around campus as well as opportunities to win giveaways. Another great event is the outdoor movie night which happens in the campus commons once a year. At the end of the year TRUSU plans a Last Class Bash where it is a chance to celebrate the end of the school year and relax before exams start.

Free Sports on Campus

Wolfpack Recreation hosts many different sports throughout the year in the TRU gym.

Research at TRU

TRU has many research opportunities as a way to gain hands-on experience in a student’s chosen field of interest. Students can work as research assistants for faculty members and be involved in various tasks. The research hub is a great way to meet other people and strengthen your understanding in a specific area of interest. The hub also hosts events for students to showcase their research as well as meet with faculty conducting their own research.

Conferences

Conferences are a great way to spend a few days learning a lot about a specific area of interest. Some of these conferences are hosted at TRU while others students travel to. TRU Research Days is an annual event for students, staff, and faculty to showcase their research. The TRU Teaching and Learning Conference is another annual event to learn about innovative teaching methods, educational technology, and student-centered learning. The Geography Club at TRU has attended the Western Division Canadian Association of Geographers Conference as well as hosted it. This is a great way to meet people interested in some of the same things as you and learn a lot while doing it!

Co-op

Cooperative Education is a way for students to gain paid work experience in their field of interest prior to graduating. The Coop course prepares students by building a resume tailored to their field, engaging in mock interviews, targeting their strengths and interests, and much more. Networking with people in your field is a great way to make connections.
