Have you ever wondered what program to take in university? Maybe you’ve wanted to see exactly what a classroom at TRU looks like. Or thought it’d be cool to meet TRU faculty while they lead you through fun activities. If any of these ideas interest you, then we have good news! We’ll have these opportunities and more at TRU’s Open House on Saturday October 21st, 2023. Open House is your chance to check out campus, whether you’ve already applied, are just starting to think about post-secondary, or simply want to get to know your local university a bit better.
What you can expect?
Featuring over 100 booths, displays, and experiences, you’ll find everything you want to know about TRU at Open House.
Faculties and Schools
Explore the many faculties and schools TRU offers with interactive drop-in sessions run by our knowledgeable faculty. Examples include Shakesperean Delights with English professors or launching hydrogen rockets with the chemistry faculty. For a full list of drop-in sessions, visit our Open House website.
Student Services
Learn about the many ways TRU supports students’ academic, physical, spiritual, mental, and financial wellbeing. Open House will have many booths showing off our student services, including the Wellness Centre, Career and Experiential Learning, and counselling services, among others!
Application Station
Open House will also feature a convenient table to fill out your TRU application, with TRU staff to help you with any questions. If you apply at Open House, we will also be waiving the application fee for domestic students!
Food
There will be a variety of local food trucks on campus, with cuisine ranging from vegan to barbeque. Select TRU Food Services will be open across campus to welcome visitors, too. Or stop by the Culinary Arts Training Centre, which will feature a special edible demonstration. There will also be snacks, cotton candy, and other goodies to enjoy!
Prizes
There will be many opportunities to get plenty of TRU swag and other prizes. Some faculties and schools have planned their own prize offerings, as well as the grand prize draw that will occur at the end of the day. (Pssst… we’ve even heard there’s an iPad up for grabs!)
Tours
Tours of our 250-acre Kamloops campus, as well as tours of our 4 residence buildings and in-depth looks into our buildings and classrooms will be available.
Who is invited?
Whether you are thinking about taking your first look into post-secondary education, considering changing careers, or just want to bring your family to a fun-filled, educational event, then Open House is the place for you.
Activities include a fun zone with options for the little ones and hands-on opportunities for all ages.
When is it happening?
The day kicks off at 9:00am on Saturday October 21st. Throughout the day, there will be drop-in sessions, a resource fair, and activities to participate in. During scheduled times, there will be tours, mini lectures, and more. The day ends at 2:30pm with a grand prize draw.
Where is it happening?
Open House will be held at our beautiful Kamloops campus. Our whole campus will be open for exploration, including our academic buildings, residence buildings, and select food services.
