But for those of you who are ready and excited to join us in the fall (or winter), your day-to-day life as a TRU student is beginning to take shape. What do we mean by that? Once the course schedule is released, you can begin planning your own schedule for the fall AND winter semesters.
Get to Know the Terminology
What is the course schedule?
The course schedule is a comprehensive list of all courses currently offered at TRU for fall, winter, and summer semesters.
What is timetabling?
Creating a conflict-free schedule of the classes you’d like to enroll in for fall and winter. This allows you to pre-plan, ensuring there are no overlapping or duplicate courses.
What is registering?
The act of signing up for your fall 2025 and winter 2026 courses. These may include lectures, seminars, and labs. Keep in mind that, as of this blog’s posting date, it is NOT time to register… yet! Registration will open mid-June 2025. For more information about how to register, check out our Registration 101 post.
Where should you start?
If you are a first-time university student, the idea of registering for classes may seem a bit overwhelming. Don’t worry! We’re here to help you step-by-step through that process.
Step 1:
Don’t panic! Take a few deep breaths, and view this as an exciting part of your post-secondary journey.
Step 2:
Determine which courses you’ll be taking. Each program has a course plan – a list of courses required to graduate with that particular credential. You can find more information about your first year courses through Academic Advising’s course planning forms.
Step 3:
Login to myTRU and start timetabling! You can check out the video linked below for a detailed guide. Remember: create a plan for BOTH fall and winter semesters!

Step 4:
Now that you have your fall and winter timetables prepared, all that is left to do is wait patiently for your specific registration date and time..
TRU determines a registration priority list, so your date may differ from others you know. You can find your registration date posted in your myTRU account likely within the first week of June. You are able to register on or after that date – we recommend registering as soon as your registration status allows, as that will give you a better chance at enrolling in your first-choice courses.
